This Creepy Thriller
Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well without requiring a sequel. Set in the late 70s in Denver, a series of kidnappings has left the children anxious. The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the struggle between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for greed in Michael Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation regarding the shamed religious broadcaster plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who declares at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye set about profiting from the American public's spiritual convictions. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, overdone appearance and insincerity, though the lead actress achieves to present the real-life figure in a likable light. Next Tuesday, early morning, on Film4
