World Series Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51 million viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-match World Series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and the network’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
